De verdwenen tonen van thuis
Humans seek a sense of belonging, a connection with others. Dialect serves as a unifying thread, intricately woven into both your identity and the bonds you share with the people close to you. It evokes feelings of pride, warmth, and security, creating a feeling of home, but what is home when it is vanishing?
For my minor Powerplay, I made a documentary in which I research the question: To what extent does the dutch education system play a role in the disappearance of dialects? In the documentary I speak with Native Rotterdam dialect speakers, primary school teachers and people that have actively unlearned their dialect to improve their chances on the labor market.
